Diver’s hideout town

For a low-key weekend, travellers will find Tawau a delightful, humble little town to meander around. It’s the perfect place to take it slow, indulge in some authentic East Malaysian cuisine, and revel in Sabah’s famous natural beauty.
Start off with a gastronomic adventure by sampling Sulawesi soto makasar, nasi kuning, curry puffs and the various seafood dishes available here. After sating your appetite and stocking up on some much needed energy, hike out to the Tawau Hills Park where you can marvel at the tallest tropical tree in the world, towering 88.34 metres, before enjoying a leisurely soak in its hot springs.
Before leaving town for the utopian diving destinations of Mataking and Sipadan, don’t forget to drop by the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum and Farm to get a little education about cocoa production.
